Fingernail polish or acrylic nails obstruct the light transmission and may result in inaccurate readings. What's a Normal Pulse Oximeter Reading? A healthy person should have blood oxygen levels close to 100%. Normal readings are typically around 95% or higher. If your blood oxygen levels dip down close to 90%, that's considered to be too low. How to Clean the Pulse Oximeter Wipe the device with a soft cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Be careful not to pour or spay and liquids onto the pulse oximeter.
